WHAT: This Excel spreadsheet contains a list of all the prostitution-related arrests made by Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department from Jan. 1, 2001, to Dec. 13, 2011. The arrests are listed by the date and time they occurred, the type of crime allegedly committed, and the approximate street address, police district and ward where the arrest took place. The spreadsheet also contains the geo-coordinates of the arrest’s location for electronic mapping purposes. An explanation of what some of these terms mean is at the bottom of the spreadsheet.
HOW: I received this spreadsheet on Dec. 13, 2011, from the MPD’s Research & Analysis Branch. The branch was responding to a request I made several weeks prior for this data.
WHY: In the interests of transparency and of greater public access to information, I am making this spreadsheet available for free to anyone who wants it. Please note that the spreadsheet is presented here exactly as it was when I received it on Dec. 13. No alterations have been made.
